Reflecting on what I learned during this class

Since the semester and school year is coming to a close, I thought I would just express my thoughts about the class.  I think this class is very insightful. It teaches us and helps us to open our eyes to different type of performances.  Like I said in one of the first few blogs i've ever posted for this class, I was not aware of how many different types of performance s there were - especially in the Asian culture.  Every single performance we talked about this semester was unique and had their own importance/reasoning behind the origin of the performance.  Yes, some performances over-lapped in meaning (like the performances dedicated to spirits) but they had their own special thing that set them apart from the rest.  I thought this was really cool.  We learned so much about masks, music, dances, training, and footwork - our dance practice during the second half of the class really helped us understand how difficult it is to perfect the technique.  Even now, as we are preparing for our final piece, for those of us who THINK we have perfected the walk, we are FAR from it.  If I were on the outside looking in, I would definitely have the mindset that it could not be all that hard.  I have gained a lot of respect to the performers who actually do this for a living because it is not an easy task to master the performance in a couple of weeks - which explains why they learn it at such a young age.
This is an excellent class :)
