My Review of Disappearance

I went to go see the performance of Disappearance the day after opening night on one of the days when the performance incorporated French into it.  I really enjoyed the performance.  It was unlike any play I had ever seen before.  I think what I liked best about the play was that it required a certain amount of focus and that you had to follow the storyline closely.  What I mean by this is that everything was not just flat out told to you.  Viewers were kept guessing and were able to try and make their own predictions as the story unraveled.  Even after the play ended there were certain aspects that were left open for the audience to make their own interpretations about.  Some of these were with regards to the plot and others were with regard to the overall theme of the story.

Going along the lines of having to pay close attention, I liked the incorporation of specific details into the play.  I did not even catch some of these details.  For example, I did not notice that the back of Lint's uniform was a dismembered Israeli flag.  Another aspect of the play that I enjoyed was the acting itself.  I thought a lot of the actors did a really great job in their roles.  I especially like the actor that played Mr. Donan.  He incorporated so much humor into the play and was just so funny to watch.  I also thought Abhay did a great job as Chaz.  He was able to subtly incorporate the dark personality of his character with the happiness he feels with regards to his brother.

The storyline of this play was very unusual compared to most others I have seen but this uniqueness made it more enjoyable to watch.  I liked the post-apocalyptic concept that managed to incorporate some hope into it.  It was interesting to consider that such a time could possibly exist in the future.  Overall though, I really liked the play and am glad I was able to go see it.  In my opinion it was very well done and exposed its audience to something a bit out of the ordinary.
